Web 2.0 is a term or concept that began at a conference in 2004.
Though the term is relatively new the concept has been around for a little longer.
It has finally taken off after the IM community took hold of it and decided it was the wave of the future. So how does Web 2.0 work?
Well first you need to understand the difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.
With Web 1.0 the website is basically a static site where the visitor goes to retrieve information.
Web 2.0 allows for an interaction between the visitor and the website that was not possible before.
Prime examples of Web 2.0 type sites would be MySpace, Facebook, Flickr, Wikipedia, all the social bookmarking sites, and of course blogging with WordPress being in the forefront.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In studying and/or promoting web-technology, the phrase Web 2.0 can refer to a trend in web design and development — a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services (such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies) which aim to facilitate creativity, collaboration, and sharing between users. The term gained currency following the first O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004. Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use webs.
So is Web 2.0 the wave of the future?
Nope it’s the wave of the present and the foundation of future of the Internet.
